About natural fiber fillings ... pillow-duvets
Cotton, flax and wild silk stuffing. What exactly can / should you know about these materials? You can find answers to these questions after reading our article below.
Cotton
Cotton is the fine fleece that covers the seed coat of the cotton plant (Gossypium). The cotton is harvested by hand or machine, the sheaths are dried, the fibers are extracted from the sheath, and the fiber is machine-separated from the kernel, which is de-seeding or egrenation. Cotton is the most widely used, most traditional and still one of the most important textile raw materials, mainly due to its excellent physiological properties. The longer and thinner the cotton, the more valuable it is.
It has a good moisture absorption capacity (8.5%). It swells when wet, its fibers shorten - so when they are washed, their cotton products “shrink”. Quite strong, they are expressed by tensile length: this is the theoretical length of how long a thread would tear under its own weight. The length of the cotton tear is 27 to 54 km, depending on the variety (for comparison, the length of the nylon fiber is also 40 to 60 km, depending on the type.)
Thanks to the characteristics of the cotton, the lightweight duvets with excellent breathability and moisture absorption can be used to make the sleeping conditions, which ensure a relaxing sleep even on warm summer nights.
Our cushioned cotton pads provide adequate support for the head and spine due to their flexibility and shaping ability, thus preventing the neck and shoulder pain often experienced in the morning due to a lack of proper support. The billerbeck also carefully selects the cover material used for our branded cotton products, we use only cotton material to preserve the excellent properties of cotton. In the case of duvets, the cotton fiber - in order to make the duvet light, pleasantly caressing and aesthetic - requires the mixing of all polyester fibers, which does not degrade, on the contrary, improves the quality of the duvet, making the sleeping environment comfortable.

Linen
The beautiful shine, cool feel, high tensile strength, flexibility, easy bleaching and colorability of linen make it a popular raw material for the textile industry. It is used to make fabrics for a variety of purposes, from thin batiste to light garment fabrics. It is popular for household use (tablecloths, napkins, sheets, blankets) and for the production of fabrics for the decoration, furniture and upholstery industries. The so-called half linen fabrics are made of cotton warp and linen weft yarns. Their typical uses are household wipes and fabrics with cheaper linen. Due to its high strength, it is used as a canvas for large paintings. The properties of the linen filling are similar to those of cotton. Utilizing the antibacterial, moisture-absorbing, dehumidifying and fast-drying properties of linen, it can be made into excellent summer duvets.
The feel of the duvets creates a cool feeling, so it helps to regulate the body's temperature in high heat.
Linen is a natural filling with a particularly high moisture absorption capacity. It is able to absorb an amount of moisture equal to one-third of its own weight, is well ventilated and dries very quickly, so using it in a duvet, our body stays dry even on warm summer days.

Wild silk
In addition to the silkworm of farmed silk moths, the textile industry uses cocoons from the so-called wild silk. It is usually coarser and darker in color than the silk of a cultured silkworm. For millennia, it has been one of our noblest, most durable natural ingredients, living in the minds of most people as an expensive ingredient and becoming one with the notion of absolute luxury as well as the gentlest touch. Because it is a living material, silk harmonizes well with the human body, human skin. First of all, it helps to preserve the heat economy: it cools in the heat and heats in the cold. It is also very useful in balancing water balance. It can bind 300 times its own weight from water. Unlike cotton-filled products, which contain it, wild-silk-filled products wick away moisture. This helps with all kinds of moisture problems, such as also excessive sweating, night sweats, and body pimples. Wild silk-filled products are flexible, highly absorbent, moisture wicking, very good ventilated, antistatic duvets provide a natural, comfortable, pleasant sleeping environment. Silk is hypoallergenic in nature, free of dust mites. In summer, they are especially cool quilts, thanks to the beneficial physiological properties of wild silk. Blankets filled with silk are traditionally cleaned by sunbathing. It is recommended to ventilate the duvets regularly, but not more than one hour a month, protected from direct sunlight, preferably in dry weather. This has a cleansing and clarifying effect on the silk filling and will never require any other cleaning under average conditions. If the duvet becomes heavily soiled, wash it in lukewarm water up to 30 °C, rinse several times in cold water and dry while lying down.
